Guy Jones, Farmer

Guy Jones started farming in the Hudson Valley not long after he gave up his NPO storefront law office in Albany, New York in the early eighties. At the beginning, the main business for Blooming Hill was selling retail at farmer's markets locally, and in New York at the Union Square Greenmarket.

Even back then the farm was growing a very wide variety of specialty organic produce- some of it strange and new even for the edgy New York restaurant scene. This attracted the attention of many up and coming chefs such as David Bouley, Mario Batali, Tom Colicchio and Michael Romano. These would-be restaurateurs began picking up produce from the farm's Greenmarket stand on a regular basis. Other chefs caught wind of this and began requesting that the farm try out growing other unique crops from then hard to obtain imported seeds. The farm answered these requests and the word began to spread.

Not before long the farm had developed a small wholesale operation, delivering weekly directly to restaurants in New York and the surrounding metropolitan area.

Today the farm is still known for it's unaltered, eclectic and broad produce offerings- we grow and forage over 200 varieties of fruits and vegetables on less than a hundred acres of land in the lower Hudson Valley. We are proud to sell to some of the finest restaurants in New York City, New Jersey, Westchester, Orange, and Rockland counties.
